Glory Days in the Kent League!
Well, what can you say about the 1970's in Sheppey's
history? We started out the decade playing in the Metropolitan
London League, rejoined the Kent League at the start of the
1972-73 season and won 3 titles, 2 Kent League Cups, the Kent
Senior Shield and came close to at least another 2 league titles
before the decade was out!
From a personal point of view, this was when
I first started being taken to watch the Sheppey play by my
dad and have many fond memories of watching the likes of 'Trigger'
Hunn and others play.
The start of the 1980's weren't quite
as succesful but, at the end of 1984, after finishing runners-up
to Sittingbourne in the Kent League and losing to Cray Wanderers
in the Kent League Cup final, the club once again returned
to the Southern League - an ambition the club had had throughout
the 1970's was finally achieved.
