Sheppey
on the attack in the 3-0 home defeat by Kennington from
last season.
RIP Sheppey United
Well, this is a sad day indeed. It's been announced
that Sheppey United are to, once again, disband the first team
and, from next season onwards, will run youth teams only. The
club has resigned it's place from the Kent County League as a
result of this decision. A new side, AFC Sheppey, has been formed
to replace Sheppey United and have taken Sheppey's place in Kent
County League Division 1 East.
I am unaware of the reasoning behind this decision
but my feeling is that chances of Sheppey United returning to
senior football for a third time are very slim indeed.
I will keep this site running in the hope that
I am proved wrong and, while the club have no senior side, will
run this site as one that concentrates on Sheppey United's history
and past.
Watch this space for the forthcoming changes and
updates.
New Official Club Website Launched
The club now have
a new official website. The address is the one I thought it would
be and it can be located here.
New Squad Photo Online
I've finally managed to get an up-to-date squad
photo today when I managed to take a couple of snaps of the team
when they posed for a team shot and have put it online on the
Squad page.

Club History Updated
I
have updated the site a bit by adding all the remaining league
tables from when Sheppey were last in the Southern League and
these tables can be found by visiting the "Club History" page
plus another profitable trip to the local library means I now
have got all of the league tables for the 1930's and the 1950's
online. In addition to this, 2 league tables from the 1990's,
another 1 from the 1960's has been added as well as 2 from
the 1900's and 1 from the 1920's from Sheppey's time in the
old Kent League. I now have, if I've done my maths correctly,
league tables from 86 of the 110 years available online since
Sheppey started competing in formalised league football in
1895.
This has now been supplemented with Chris Collings,
a Dover Athletic supporter, having provided me with all the Kent
League Tables from 1895-1978. I was able to add league tables for
1907-1914, 1920, 1926, correct 1946 and add the tables for 1973-1975
plus, with some scans that Chris also sent me, 1981, 1982 and 1994-1997
have been added thanks to Chris' help! Many thanks Chris, your
help is very much appreciated. Chris has also offered to try and
help me fill in the blanks for years 1967-1971 when Sheppey were
in the Metropolitan League. These 5 years are the only years now
where I don't have an end of season league table for Sheppey. The
end is in sight!
The tables for 1967-1971 have now been acquired.
I received an e-mail from Graham Allison last night who said that
he had these tables and offered to send them to me. These duly
arrived this morning and have now been typed up and put online.
Many thanks, Graham.
Then it's onto putting all of Sheppey's league and
cup results online. After that, I'll try and add
all the goalscorers for each competitive game played to the page
for each individual season. Should I ever achieve this herculean
task, I'll try and get friendly games covered as well.

More Photos Online
2
more photos have been added to my collection of Sheppey photos.
The one I am most pleased at getting hold of is a teamshot of
Sheppey from 1893 with the Chatham and Rochester Charity Cup which
the team won that season. The photo has been added to the section
dealing with that era in the club history section. I have also
acquired a teamshot from the Greater London League Championship
winning team of 1964/65 which is also online as is a match shot
from the 19th century. I have another team shot online but am unsure
which year it is from. I have added it to the Club
History page if anyone wants to have a look and put
a year - and maybe some names to faces - for me.
Revamp of Site Design
I
have decided to have yet another revamp of the site's appearance
after deciding to re-launch the website after taking it offline
for a few months. Hopefully you'll think it's an improvement over
the previous design I used for the website even though I've only "tweaked" the
appearance rather than have a major redesign. I'll be looking
to continually improve the look and feel of the website on an
ongoing basis. I'm hope you will like the improvements that I
have made.
So
here's to the rest of the season and let's hope that the club add
another cup to the trophy cabinet and win all our remaining league
games so that when the season ends we will find ourselves in the
Premier Division and only 1 step away from returning to the Kent
League.
